March 1. 2016, I will begin running across America, raising awareness and donations for The 9/11 National Memorial Trail Alliance. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit, working to establish a National Memorial Trail (a multi-use run, hike, bike trail) connecting the three 9/11 Memorial crash sites. It would be the first of it's kind in the US, as there currently are no federally designated "National Memorial" Trails in existence. When it's finished, it will be an approximately 1100 mile long triangle shaped route linking the Pentagon Memorial, Flight 93 Memorial in Shanksville, PA, and the National September 11 Memorial in New York City.
I will be blogging the journey on here. Thanks for stopping in!

Just how does one train for a run like this?
To tell you the truth, I haven't a clue!
Luckily, I have some good friends who are ultra distance runners. They have been very helpful with advice about training, nutrition, etc.
But still, it all comes down to how your body handles stress. Physical stress for sure. But also even bigger stress is mental. You not only have to train your body to handle the long hours of relentless forward motion, you have to train your mind to not talk you into giving up prematurely.
Your body can do way more than your mind thinks it can. It's a primal instinct for the brain to want to protect the body from harm. But the brain wants to stop way before the body is ready to give out.
How many times have you given up on something seemingly too difficult to complete, only to sit there for 15 mins and figure out what you gave up on was not that difficult at all? You just needed a little rest and refocusing and you would have been good as new!
Yes, the task would still have been difficult, but you push thru to the other side. The side that says, "yes, I can do this!"
Here's hoping I can train my mind to have the clarity to push thru the difficult patches during these few months of pushing myself to new limits!
